My name is
Mary Villery Gloston and I am a 1977 graduate of Opelousas Senior High.I am presently the Human Resources Director for the Louisiana State
Department of Education. I've been employed with the State of Louisiana for 28.5
years and am proud to be on staff at this particular Department. My entire
career has been in the Human Resources field and somehow seems to migrate to
education-affiliated agencies. I started my career in human resources at Louisiana State University and was
on staff for 12 years. This is where I gained much of my expertise with academic
and school employee issues.
My next 11 years in human resources was at the State Division of Administration
under the administrations of Edwards, Roemer, and Foster. At the end of those 11
years, I was the Human Resources Functional Team Lead in the implementation of
the SAP Human Resources/Payroll system. The expertise I gained over my 23 years
in Human Resources contributed to the tasks in development, design and
implementation of a payroll system for over 100,000 state employees. This was
very exciting yet very intense. In 2002, I moved to the Department of Education as Assistant Human Resources
Director thinking this was my career-ending move.
After two years with the LDOE, an opportunity became available for Human Resources Director of the Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism, Office of the Lt. Governor. I was hired by Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu and Secretary Angele Davis to lead the Human Resources functions for that agency. During this time, my greatest experience was learning to be creative and to "think outside the box" providing recommendations to an elected official.
In 2007, my predecessor at the State Department of Education announced her retirement and I decided to return to the State Department of Education as the Human Resources Director because it is very exciting to know all that I do to support educators who are trying to make a difference with the children. I am honored and humbled to now be a part of the Pastorek team and look forward to exciting changes and accomplishments. I am also very proud to be the sister of one of your colleagues, Gwen Villery and am excited to see any accomplishments by Senior High staff.
I have been
married for 27 years to Kenneth Gloston, OHS '75, and we have one son, Justin,
who is a handbag designer with BCBG Max Azria in Los Angeles, California. Thanks for this opportunity. Mary V. Gloston

I have been living in Central Pennsylvania for almost 9 years, but I have
lived in Lafayette, Louisiana from 1994-99. I also have worked at the Target
store on Johnston Street in Lafayette. I also worked as a telemarketer in
Lafayette, but left that job after only a couple of months. I worked with my
mother for two months last year, but was never called back to work. But my first
job up here in Pennsylvania was at a driver's license place, but I worked there
for only a few weeks. I have been trying to find other classmates on various websites. I am most
interested in finding out whatever happened to Tanya Aymond, who also graduated
from Opelousas High School.
